LGBT Relationship Issues – Facts

Prevalence Rates and Facts Among LGBT Groups

  1. Some studies show that lesbian and bisexual women report the highest rates of dating violence.*
  2. Among some studies, gay men reports nearly the same as heterosexual men.*
  3. Transgender men and women report violence (in general) at higher rates than non-transgender men and women.*
  4. The rates of dating violence (including physical violence) perpetrated against transgender individuals are underreported and difficult to measure.*
  5. Some studies indicate that lesbian women report higher rates of physical violence than heterosexual women do.*
  6. Bisexual women report even higher rates of physical violence.*
  7. Gay men report physical violence at around the same rate as heterosexual men. However, rates of physical violence against bisexual men are underreported and hard to measure.*
  8. Rape is underreported, and as a result, it is difficult to measure rates among LGBT groups. However, studies estimate that bisexual women and transgender women report some of the highest rates of rape in some studies.*
